Goa is a state in western India with coastlines stretching along the Arabian Sea. Its long history as a Portuguese colony prior to 1961 is evident in its preserved 17th-century churches and the area's tropical spice plantations. Goa is also known for its beaches, ranging from popular stretches at Baga and Palolem to those in laid-back fishing villages such as Agonda. Old Goa is home to the massive, Portuguese-style Se Cathedral and the baroque Basilica of Bom Jesus, which holds the remains of the state's patron saint, Francis Xavier. In Panaji, the capital, the Latin Quarter's winding streets contain galleries, cafes and colonial-era Portuguese-style homes. Bird Sanctuary provides a look at a native mangrove ecosystem. Goa's interior features small villages, quiet retreats, waterfalls and jungle trails.

Old Gold Once the administrative capital of the Portuguese empire in the East, Old Goa is blessed with churches, chapels and convents of unsurpassed architectural beauty, befitting its label as 'Golden Goa' or 'Rome of the East'. The conquest of Goa by Afonso de Albuquerque in 1510 saw the advent of several religious orders like the Franciscans, Jesuits, Augustinians, Dominicans and Carmelites, who left their stamp with the many monuments they built in Old Goa.
Panaji, also known as Panjim, is the state capital of Goa, in southwest India. Located on the banks of the Mandovi River, the city has cobblestone streets lined with colorful villas and buildings from the Portuguese colonial era. Palm-fringed Miramar Beach sits at the confluence of the river and the Arabian Sea. Set on a hill overlooking the city is the baroque Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church.
Calangute is a town in the western Indian state of Goa. Standing on the shores of the Arabian Sea, its home to long, sandy Calangute Beach, lined with restaurants and bars. Farther north, Baga Beach is a popular spot for water sports. To the south, the sturdy walls of Aguada Fort, built in the early 1600s under Portuguese colonial rule, surround a 19th-century lighthouse.
Palolem Beach is a stretch of white sand on a bay in Goa, South India. It's known for its calm waters and for its nightlife, including "silent discos" where partygoers wear headphones. Lined with palm trees and colorful wooden shacks, the beach faces Canacona Island, known for its resident monkeys. To the south, turtles nest at Galgibaga Beach. Inland, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is home to birds, wild boars and gaur.
Baga Beach is a coastal town in the western Indian state of Goa. Standing on the shores of the Arabian Sea, it's known for long, sandy Baga Beach, a popular spot for water sports. Held on Saturday nights, Baga Beach Market features stalls selling handicrafts and textiles. Baga's coastline extends south to lively Calangute Beach, lined with restaurants and bars, and north to palm-fringed Anjuna Beach.
Margao is the second largest city by population, and the commercial and cultural capital of the Indian state of Goa. It is the administrative headquarters of Salcete sub-district and South Goa district.
Spice Gardens boast of a serene and relaxed atmosphere with an aroma of a varied spices. Guests are greeted warmly with a homemade welcome drink. These gardens are a place which connects you to nature.
Safa Masjid, also called the Safa Shahouri Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in Goa. It was built by Ibrahim Adil Shah in 1560. The star attraction of Safa Masjid is the huge laterite stone masonry tank with turquoise waters located within the mosque complex. Safa Masjid has a sprawling charbagh-style garden and dense trees in its backyard, making for a very pleasing sight.
